- How does Hainan Airlines assist unaccompanied minors during the check-in and security check processes?
A. During check-in, please advise airport staff that you are bringing an unaccompanied minor. Hainan Airlines will appoint a specially trained representative to assist the unaccompanied child throughout all the processes required for departure, such as check-in, customs clearance, security check and baggage claim. This person will also look after the unaccompanied child and his or her travel documents while waiting for boarding.
B. At time of boarding, the ground staff will hand over the unaccompanied child and his/her travel documents to an appointed crew member who will be responsible for the child throughout the entire flight. It is recommended that the parent/guardian accompanying the child to the airport wait at the airport until the flight has taken off in case he/she needs to be contacted quickly for any further questions/concerns.
- What services does Hainan Airlines provide for unaccompanied minors in case of a cancelled or delayed flight?
If a flight is delayed, Hainan Airlines will appoint a staff member to take care of your child and arrange for accommodation, meals and transportation as necessary. We will also contact the parent/guardian responsible for meeting the child at the destination airport as well as the appropriate departments to ensure the child arrives safely. If a flight is cancelled, we will contact the parent/guardian responsible for bringing the child to the departure airport immediately and return your child safely back to the departure airport.
- What documents need to be provided if a child is flying alone?
Children who fly alone must be in possession of all valid travel documents; whether that be a Passport and/or other forms of Identification (dependent on the final destination of the flight), flight ticket(s), application for unaccompanied minor service, and/or other necessary documentation.
- What documents need to be provided when arranging travel for an unaccompanied minor?
To arrange travel for a child traveling alone, the parent/guardian will need to provide the minor's Identification Card or Passport and any other necessary travel documents of the child. The name, address and telephone number of the person responsible for bringing the child to the departure airport and the contact info of the person responsible for meeting the child at the destination airport, will all need to be provided at the departure airport for departure formalities.
- How much is the travel fare of an unaccompanied minor?
For regional and international flights, unaccompanied minors are charged full adult fares.
- How old must a child be to qualify as an unaccompanied minor?
Children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old qualify as an unaccompanied minor and must be registered as such if traveling on Hainan Airlines without an accompanying adult.
- How are unaccompanied minors received at the destination airport upon arrival?
We will inform the parent/guardian meeting the child at the destination airport of all flight information/updates at all times. After arrival at the destination airport, the crew member responsible for the child during the flight will hand over the unaccompanied child to the appointed ground staff. The ground staff will hand over the child to the person meeting him or her only after proper identification of that person has been confirmed.
- How are arrangements made for persons requiring stretcher service?
Please contact the local Sales office of Hainan Airlines to make arrangements for passengers requiring stretcher service at least 72 hours before flight departure.
- Does a wheelchair need to be transported as checked baggage?
Both foldable and electronic wheelchairs shall be transported free of charge in addition to the normal free checked baggage allowance.
