Policy Statement
With the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, citizens from the designated 59 countries are allowed to enter Hainan province visa free for tourism, commercial activities and trade, visit and exchange, and family reunions, receiving medicaltreatment, attending exhibitions, taking part in sporting events andother needs (excluding long-term working and studying) for up to 30 days. They can enter Hainan through any designated ports of entry in the province and travel within the province's administrative area only during their stay periods (subject to the relevant provisions if applicable to a mutual visa exemption agreements signed with China). Each duration period is calculated from 00:00 on the day following the day of entry.

Provisions Regarding Accommodation Registration For Foreigners

According to the relevant provisions of the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China and the Measures for the Public Security Administration of the Hotel Industry, foreigners who stay in hotels in China shall provide international travel documents such as passports to the hotels for registration. For foreigners who stay outside of a hotel, they or their hosts shall register to the public security authorities at residence or use the Haiyiban APp for online self-registratio n within 24 hours after their entry into Hainan.

Foreigners shall leave China prior to the expiry of the duration of stay. Foreigners who stay or reside in China shall not engage in activities not consistent with the purpose of stay or residence, and shall leave China prior to the expiry of the prescribed duration of stay or residence.

Seven payment options available for foreigners traveling in Hainan
  • WeChat Pay
    The digital payment is accessible to foreigners who have signed up for WeChat and obtained payment accounts, which can be topped up at any China Everbright Bank outlets in Hainan. Overseas bank cards can be added to Wechat Pay and Alipay.
  • UnionPay Tour Card
    Overseas tourists who do not have UnionPay cards or payment accounts can register for a Tour Card and top up in UnionPay app with passports or other valid travel documents. Tourists can pay by UnionPay QR code.
  • International E-wallets
    Residents of Hong Kong and Macao can directly use UnionPay App (Hong Kong and Macao version), ICBC (Macao) and other local E-wallets for payments by scanning merchant's UnionPay QR code in Hainan province.Foreign residents can do so by using K PLUS (Thailand), Naver Pay (South Korea) and other nearly 170 international E-wallet safter binding overseas UnionPay cards.
  • Overseas Bank Cards
    Overseas bank cards like Visa,MasterCard, JCB, American Express, etc. are accepted bymerchant's POS terminals.
  • E-CNY
    Download the "E-CNY" APp in the app store. Foreigners can use overseas mobile phone number to register and top up in the APP through overseas bank cards.Foreigners can also apply for a hardware wallet and top up. and pay by taping the sensor area ofthe POS machine.
  • Cash
    Foreigners can withdraw RMB cash with their bank cards at an ATM of any banks, or directly exchange for RMB cash at bank outlets, outlets of qualified financial institutions, or self-service kiosks.
  • NFC
    Foreigners can attach credit cards of UnionPay, VlSA or MasterCard to HiePay or use Apple Pay attached with aforemen-tioned cards to pay through NFC. (Now, this policy is being piloted in Sanya's taxi sector.)
Apply for documents to prolong your stay in Hainan

You shall apply for a visa or stay permit to the exit and entry administration authority of Hainan's public security agency at least 7 days before the validity period of stay expires. Upon examination and approval, the exit-entry administration authority may issue a visa or stay permit to you, and you may continue to stay in Hainan or travel to other areas of Chinese mainland with the visa or stay permits issued.

Authorities To Apply
If you are staying in Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou, Yangpu, Wenchang, Qionghai or Chengmai, you can submit your application to the local exit and entry administration authority of the local public security agency. And if you are staying in other places of Hainan, you need go to the Exit-Entry Service Window at Hainan Government Affairs Service Center for application.
